I am associate professor in urban and regional planning at IGN and member of the resarch groups Spatial Change and Planning and GIScience and Geodesign.

Research topics include spatial planning, sustainable urban development, resource and energy efficient cities, land use change, urban sprawl, functional regions, small towns, spatial analysis, digital planning.

I hold a MSc in Urban and Regional Planning (2006) from the Vienna University of Technology. My PhD project (finished in 2012) was supervised by Gertrud Jørgensen, Thomas Sick Nielsen and Stephan Pauleit and dealt with urbanisation of rural areas and urban growth management.

In the past I was involved in several national and international projects, including

• Small and medium-sized towns in Denmark (ESPON TOWN DENMARK, 2022)
• Evaluating Spatial Planning Practices with Digital Plan Data (ESPON DIGIPLAN, 2020-2021)
• Emerging digital plan data - perspectives into evaluation and planning practice (NOS-HS workshop series, 2019-2023)
• Urban metabolism and waste behaviour in touristic cities (EU-H2020 URBAN WASTE, 2016-2019)
• Regional strategies for sustainable and inclusive development (EU-ESPON ReSSI,  2016-2017)
• Planning for smart and energy efficient cities (EU-FP7 PLEEC, 2013-2016)
• Challenges and prospects of Danish small towns (Realdania, 2012-2013)
• Land use scenarios for Greater Copenhagen (Centre for Strategic Urban Research, 2011).
• Peri-urban land use relationships (EU-FP6 PLUREL, 2007-2011)

I was co-supervisor for several PhD students: Tongyun Du (finished 2021), Liang Xiao (guest PhD 2019-2020), Lu Sun (paused),  Juliane Große (finished in 2017)

I teach in the Landscape Architecture programme. From 2008 to 2014 I was co-responsible for the bachelor course "Bypolitik" (Urban policies). Since 2016 I am co-responsible for "Byplan Studio" (Urban Planning Studio). I supervise students on all levels.
