N2 - This chapter aims at showcasing the relationship between agency and conceptual development for interpersonal communication in the L2. We begin reviewing the literature focused on sociocultural teaching and learning models that situate the learner as an agentive being participating in the development of communicative activities. We also offer SCT-inspired models to promote the development of agentive roles and learners’ positioning as speakers and communicators using a common repertoire of tools and meanings that prioritizes identity expression and conceptual mediation in Spanish LE/FL learning. Finally, we propose expanding pedagogical proposals based on transactional ideas of communication with interpersonal ones to represent and recognize learners’ self-image and role during interpersonal communication in regards to their communicative goals.
