N2 - Evidence from epidemiology, randomized intervention trials, and Mendelian randomization studies indicates that obesity is causally associated with increased burden of cardiovascular disease risk factors and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. This association is probably mediated by modifiable risk factors; thus indicating that primary prevention with weight loss and treatment of obesity-related risk factors for cardiovascular disease will reduce cardiovascular disease in the general population.
