I have developed my career within the area of one health antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship. My work aims at controlling the emergence and spread of zoonotic antimicrobial-resistant threats in food animals, companion animals, and wildlife. I investigate how improving farming practices can help us tackle the threat of antimicrobial resistance through disease prevention, sustainable management practices, and hygiene. As part of preventing disease in animals, I study the digestive and respiratory microbiome and explore its association to health and disease. I am also interested in the adaptation and co-evolution of microbes and their host. Last, I coordinate the pan-European study PREPARE-VET, which aims at bringing awareness of veterinary antimicrobial stewardship and improving the curricula of veterinary education in Europe.
