Exploiting new knowledge of Candidal infection for future antifungal combat

During recent years in vitro and animal studies have contributed significantly to the knowledge of Candida virulence mechanisms and identification of potential targets for new antifungal treatment. Candida infection is seen as a significant problem for human health in the future in particular in immunocompromised patients (World Health Organization, 2014). In 2013 fluconazole-resistant Candida was listed as having equivalent threat level to human health as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. This article is protected by copyright.
