Ph.D., Copenhagen University 1977, “Clinical course and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical function in glucocorticoid treated surgical patients”.

 

Scientific publications: > 1,250 articles, predominantly within the topics of surgical pathophysiology, acute pain physiology and treatment, the surgical stress response, regional anaesthesia, postoperative fatigue, postoperative immunofunction, fluid management, cognitive function and perioperative morbidity. The research results have been condensed into the concept of “Fast-track surgery” or “Enhanced recovery”, which has achieved worldwide attention and implementation.
