The Borgring Project was launched in 2016 by Museum Southeast Denmark and Aarhus University in the wake of the breaking news of Borgring being recognised as the fifth geometrical ring fortress of Viking Age Denmark.
Borgring and the other geometrical ring fortresses from the Viking Age are still somewhat enigmatic. The origin of their strict geometry, their distribution across Denmark and specific function are the subject of debate. In order to put the ring fortresses into perspective, researchers from Germany, Sweden and Denmark will present a variety of fortresses, strongholds, fortified emporia and magnate´s fenced residences dating to the Viking Age.
